Andy's Cancer Journey

On 3rd November 2014, 6 years to the week after Daisy had been finally diagnosed with intestinal failure and started receiving nutrition intravenously (TPN), Andy was diagnosed with advanced colorectal cancer.

On diagnosis he was found to have Stage 4 cancer metastasised to his liver and with some lymph node involvement.  A couple of weeks later a PET scan identified two small spots on his lungs.  He started on chemotherapy, with a combination of 4 drugs - 5FU, Irinotecan, Oxalyplatin plus Bevacicamab ( Folfoxiri plus Avastin).  So far this has been successful in shrinking the tumours and the next step is major surgery to remove a large portion of his liver and once he has recovered from this further surgery to remove the primary tumour.  As the cancer had already spread it is not classed as curable but the doctors aim to treat it as a chronic condition.  We are positive, strong and determined.  We are fortunate that our life with Daisy before this time has been the best training to take on this new challenge.

Here's some posts about how we are dealing with this latest curveball in our already complicated lives

On the 25th November 2015 Andy's oncologist told us that the tumours had infiltrated Andy's liver and there was nothing more that could be done, all care was palliative and he only had a short time left

I was looking for Information on the EHC and came across you blog. What you described was so close to home and so well written, which got me reading further. I saw how you dealt with so much and yet remained so strong or so it seemed. People think I am a strong character myself but inside is a different story. I clicked onto the section of yourself and your late husband and sincerely wanted to express how sorry I was for your sad lose. It was truly touching to read and just highlights how some of us have to deal with so much pain in life. I could go on, but I will keep it brief and hope you and family are all well. All the best x
